Conflict of interests
Do companies that advertise on Facebook, who then buy Facebook (FB) stock, have a conflict of interest?
If not, aren’t they (or can they) artificially increase their wealth? (ie invest more in Facebook, sell stock etc.)

China's Not-So-Super Computers
But a closer look at China’s supercomputers reveals a program that is far less of a threat to U.S. technological dominance than commonly believed. Chinese researchers say decisions about how supercomputers are used are often made by local politicians more interested in local development projects than breakthrough technology.

My Political Prediction for 2012: It’s...

So the Democratic ticket for 2012 is Obama-Clinton.
Why do I say this? Because Obama needs to stir the passions and enthusiasms of a Democratic base that’s been disillusioned with his cave-ins to regressive Republicans. Hillary Clinton on the ticket can do that.
Thats interesting. Is it weird that i thought Bill Clinton before Hillary Clinton?
Damn,...
Swing Till You Puke—Inside a Nuclear Cooling Tower
http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/12/st_reactorpark/?pid=7954
Kids trapped indoors by cold weather are prone to meltdown. But some lucky German parents will soon be able to go nuclear on them—by taking them to an indoor amusement park at a 327-megawatt atomic energy plant. It’s called Wunderland Kalkar, and it’s built on the remains of SNR-300, a shuttered fast breeder north of Dusseldorf in...
The New York Subway Uses This Townhouse As a...
Strolling through scenic Brooklyn Heights, this handsome brick house might catch your eye. Perhaps you’ll buy it, move in, and spend the rest of your life there. Unfortunately, it’s a fake house, hiding a secret NYC Subway exit.
The Brooklyn Eagle reports that the mass transit ghost house, filled old electrical panels and little else, ties in directly to the city’s underbelly:...

Can train technology reinvent the wheel?
One blue-sky idea is the Aero-Train - a plane-like vehicle which travels at up to 350km/h (220mph) just 10cm above the ground.
The vehicle uses a technology known as ground-effect which removes the friction that makes conventional rail transport less efficient and uses aerodynamics to reduce drag.
Its speed relies on aerodynamics similar to those used in a plane or a hovercraft, using the air...

Sony's bio battery turns waste paper into...
Sony has unveiled a paper-powered battery prototype in Japan.
The technology generates electricity by turning shredded paper into sugar which in turn is used as fuel.
If brought to market, the innovation could allow the public to top up the power of their mobile devices using waste material.
The team behind the project said such bio-batteries are environmentally friendly as they did not use...
Sony is sued in US over 'no-sue' agreement
Sony is being sued for changes to its terms and conditions designed to prevent users from suing it en masse.
…
The claim was filed on behalf of all customers who had bought a PlayStation 3 and had signed up for access to the PlayStation Network (PSN) before the changes to the terms and conditions.
It argues that Sony’s decision to institute a no-suing clause in its terms and...

Monday Night Football [2.14]
Ted: So let me get this straight. A funeral is the one time you don't suit up?
Barney: Have I taught you nothing, Ted?
Ted: Virtually.
Barney: Suits are full of joy. They're the sartorial equivalent of a baby's smile.
Lily: Sartorial?
Barney: Of, or pertaining to, tailors or their trade. Suits are for the living. That's why, when it's my time to R.I.P. I'm going out of this world the same way I came into it. BUCK NAKED. Yeah. It's gonna be awesome. Open bar for the guys, open casket for the ladies. [In a high-pitched voice] What up?
Episode: [Raises his hand in anticipation for a high-five]
Episode: [Everybody walks past Barney except Marshall, who giggles and gives him a high-five]
